National Seminar – European Experience for Implementation of Environmental and Forestry Policy was conducted by CENN initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture with the support of Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).
The seminar was aimed at introduction of political, institutional and financial tools of sustainable forest governance and discussion of opportunities for implementation of a united, balanced national policy, taking into account the social-economic and environmental priorities of the country.
An invited expert, Winfried Suess presented an action plan for tourism and recreation management in the forests providing for development of synchronization of forest governance systems with national priorities and development of institutional and financial and economic tools intended for making use of economic potential.
As concerns the release of social and energy pressure on forests, the document of a State Program on Provision of Population with Heating Resources updated by governmental agencies was discussed at the seminar.
Another discussion topic was the process of unification of the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment and Natural Resources Protection into a single institution based on the best practices of developed countries including Austria. Winfried Suess presented the Austrian model for institutional organization for its detailed analysis and adaptation to the Georgian reality.
