Trainings with Local Working Groups (LWGs) in Keda, Chiatura and Tkibuli Municipalities

CENN continuous active works with Local Working Groups (LWGs) established in mining hot spots.

Aiming to build capacity and develop advocacy skills of local working groups (LWGs) in order to advocate on behalf of local community, a three-day training was conducted for Keda, Chiatura and Tkibuli Municipalities.

The training was held within the framework of CENN’s regional project Promoting Environmental and Social Accountability in the Mining Sector in the Caucasus and discussed advocacy, lobbing and monitoring issues.

Additionally, it emphasized the importance of cooperation and communication among different parties (the local government, businesses, schools, etc.) to resolve unfair or harmful situations affecting people in the community.

Several issues for effective advocacy were highlighted during the trainings, including identification of problems, the power of the advocates, the importance of media outreach and the selection of effective strategies and tactics.

Teams brought forward their ideas, identified local problems and target groups, set initiatives, and prepared public mobilization and advocacy plans.

The project is being implemented with the financial support of the German fund, Bread for the World.
