On 12 September WMTR II team held a consultation meeting with the citizens of Telavi and its surrounding villages. Together with the citizens WMTR II team discussed the benefits of separation and recycling. Citizens also talked about the challenges of sorting waste properly and the need to raise public’s awareness in waste management. After the discussion, local community had a chance to visit former illegal landfill where they were explained the procedures of closing a landfill and how this space can be used in the future for community.
WMTR II program is implemented by CENN, with the support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
On 14-15 September WMTR II team had organized a two day Press-tour in Beshumi, Adjara. 13 participants from Media and NGO field in the region of Adjara took part in the tour. First day was dedicated to the theoretical part where participants learned about Waste Management Fundamentals and the activities of WMTR II program. On the second day participants had a chance to see the closed landfill of Beshumi, where they were explained how it was closed.
