The Winning School of the Niko Ketskhoveli School Awards Received their Prize

Niko Ketskhoveli School Awards winner – Gvimriani Public School was awarded a prize of 8,000 GEL in grant, which was used to purchase educational equipment and technology needed to improve school conditions.

Only about 256 people live in the village of Gvimriani. The local school only runs through to year 9, after which the youth must continue education in the neighboughring villages like Lagodekhi to receive middle school education.

The Gvimriani eco-club consists of only girls up to the age of 16, who conducted significant activities for the wellbeing of their community and their environment. They organised clean-up acitvities and planted trees.

Eco-club often met with the municipal governor, council chairman, and council members to agree on issues important to their village, and most importantly, in most cases their efforts were successful.

Gvimriani School Eco Club actively cooperated not only with schools in Lagodekhi Municipality, but also in different regions of Georgia. The children planned webinars, lectures, discussions together, and although they were often the youngest in age, nothing prevented them from doing so.

Although the girls were the youngest members in the competition they were the ones with the most successful track record.

Niko Ketskhoveli School Awrds is being implemented within the scope of the CENN project – Promoting Sustainable Forest Management for Rural Development, with financial support from the Austrian Development Cooperation.
