A 2-month pilot project within the framework of the USAID WMTR II program has been successfully concluded in the city of Gori. The pilot project was implemented by CENN with assistance provided by “Friendship Bridge Kartlos”. Five volunteers were involved in the project. Participants monitored incidences of environmental pollution in crowded places in Gori streets, observing local residents and providing them with informing about pollution fines from the Waste Management Code.
Volunteers were awarded with certificates as well as symbolic prizes at the ¬Gori State University conference hall on November 27, 2018. Each of them shared their experiences with the audience and emphasized the difficulties faced during monitoring. Students, representatives of the local Municipality, as well as other interested parties attended the event. An additional 10 local students expressed willingness to continue the pilot project and engage in volunteer activity.
During this project, volunteers recorded 185 cases of environmental pollution. Based on its successful implementation, it has been planned to conduct similar initiative in the other regions of the country.
