Green Camp for Students from Shida Kartli

USAID’s Waste Management Technology in Regions, Phase 2 program (WMTR, II), implemented by CENN, is actively working to increase female participation in the waste management sector. Within the project, groups of active women and girls prepared and installed boxes for waste paper collection in different organizations in four municipalities of Shida Kartli (Kareli, Gori, Kaspi and Khashuri). The collected waste paper is provided to a domestic paper recycling company.

From December 8-9th, a two-day camp at Bulachauri Green Center occurred for active students involved in the waste paper collection project in Shida Kartli. 23 students (20 girls and 3 boys) participated in the camp from schools in the Gori, Khashuri, Kareli and Kaspi municipalities. During the camp, the participants became familiar with modern practices in waste management and current challenges in the sector, as well as the importance of gender equality and ways to increase female involvement in waste management and in general. The students were trained in writing project proposals and developing presentation skills, as well as completing practical exercises based on the aforementioned skills. As a result, the participants prepared and made presentations in groups about problems in their communities regarding waste management and how they can contribute to solving those issues. In addition, the students created and decorated a Christmas tree from used plastic bottles. The participants from the camp plan to implement environmental activities in their communities and the WMTR program will support them in their endeavors.
