WaSH and Human Rights

From November 2019 to February 2020, CENN organized a training course on “WaSH and Human Rights,” which was successfully implemented in the following regions of Georgia: Imereti, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti.

The training was attended by WaSH councils, local development groups, teachers, municipal officials and other stakeholders.

During the training, the participants were introduced to the following issues:

• Human rights to water, sanitation and hygiene.

• WaSH protection as a State obligation, and more specifically, the responsibilities of the central government and local government to protect human rights on water, sanitation and hygiene.

• Monitoring of civil society’s protection of WaSH rights, civil society and media opportunities, as well as the advocacy role in lobbying.

At the end of the meeting, the group discussed real cases of WaSH infringement and explained the protection of rights, relevant Georgian legislation, legal opportunities and tools according to the action plan drawn up by the participants.

The trainings were organized within the project framework of “WASH Initiative for Socially Vulnerable Women and Children Living in Rural Georgia”, which is being implemented by CENN with financial support provided by the Global Water Challenge and the Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF).\
