International Day of Forests 2021

As a commemoration effort of the International Day of Forests 2021, the LEPL Agency of Wildlife under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) joined forces with the CENN in deploying actions of planting trees and recovering the Krtsanisi Forest-Park. 200 Quercus longipes have been planted that are enclosed under the Red List.

The event was organized in the frames of the project “Sustainable Forest Management for Climate Resilient Rural Development” implemented by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) and the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).

“The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has commemorated the International Day of Forests at the Krtsanisi Forest-Park, where the Ministry will deploy effective actions for recovering and greenery of the forest” – Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili stated, who also joined the planting-recovery process. Nana Janashia, Executive Director of CENN stressed out the importance of raising awareness on the importance of forests, which is embraced through organizing numerous events.

The event enjoyed attendance of the MEPA’s Department of Biodiversity and Forestry, the National Forestry Agency, ADC, NGO “SABUKO”, young environmentalists and representatives of various businesses. March 21 is an International Day of Forests, which is commemorated since 2021. In 2021, the theme for the day has been “Recovery of forests – a path to wellbeing”.

After the deployment of large-scale efforts by the Agency of Wildlife – the Krtsanisi Forest-Park will attain its primary and vital function. It is a recreational space between Rustavi and Tbilisi. Visitors will be able to enjoy walking, ride bicycles and drive mini electric cars.
