The EU-supported Gori Innovative Knowledge Hub marked the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, during which the young members of the Hub met with Natia Iordanishvili, Deputy Director of the National Forestry Agency.
In the first part of the meeting, Natia Iordanishvili spoke about the Borjomi forest, which was burned down as a result of the August 2008 war. The fire was described as an ecocide and in the future became another provocateur of the 2015 fire in the Borjomi forest. During the meeting, the young people discussed with the invited expert what harm can be caused during climate and environmental conflicts and what preventive measures are in place at the international level to solve this problem.
The meeting was helt as part of the EU-funded regional project “EU4Youth: Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (SEED) for Green Growth”, which is being implemented by CENN in partnership with KRDF in Georgia and Green Lane NGO in Armenia. The project empowers disadvantaged youth in Georgia and Armenia to successfully transition from education to work through developing their Social Entrepreneurship and Green Innovation skills.
