On February 18, the Winter School for students concluded. 27 students from various universities in Tbilisi participated in a four-day winter school called Keep Georgia Beautiful.
During the Winter School, students from Ilia State University, Tbilisi State University, University of Georgia, Caucasus International University, and San Diego State University in Georgia attended seminars concerning Sustainable Waste Management Technology, Consumerism and Modernism, How to Make a Successful Presentation and Reducing Waste and Recycling Practices in Everyday Life.
After learning about fundamental waste management principles, students were divided into 7 groups to create their own Waste Management Challenges and Opportunities presentations based on their newly acquired knowledge.
After presenting their presentations, the students received feedback on their presentations from both the WMTR II program’s staff and their peers.
With the WMTR II program’s support, the Winter School students will conduct seminars about Waste Management Challenges and Opportunities at various schools in Tbilisi and Shida Kartli.
The WMTR II program conducted a similar Winter School for students from Kakheti, Shida Kartli and Adjara in December 2018.
The Winter School, Keep Georgia Beautiful, was held in the framework of the USAID WMTR II program, implemented by CENN and aims to raise awareness about waste management issues among the youth, support and develop youth involvement in the country’s sustainable development and assist them in becoming decision makers in their communities.
