EU and CENN Support Strengthening Youth and Women's Involvement in Climate Change Issues

September 6-11, 2022. Bulachauri Green Center. CENN, within the EU-funded Georgia Climate Action Project, in cooperation with partner organisations, hosted a thematic camp on climate change for women and youth. The camp aimed to raise awareness and engage local communities by demonstrating various innovative approaches to climate change issues. 21 participants from the project’s focal regions: Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi, Kakheti, and Guria, participated in the camp. Participants received thematic training on the following issues: climate change, its causes, climate change mitigation and effective adaptation, effective management of water resources, energy efficiency, developing innovative ideas using technologies, the human rights-based approach, and advocacy and lobbying.

During the group work, the participants and the leaders discussed the ways of implementing initiatives on climate change issues in their regions at local and regional levels. The discussed ideas include promoting youth and women’s activism and strengthening their capacities.  As a result of the discussions, 4 key initiatives were identified:  promotion of waste separation,  planning of climate-smart agricultural practices, raising awareness on WASH and access to clean water. The implementation of selected topics will be ensured via the allocation of financial resources within the framework of the EU-supported Georgia Climate Action project.

The EU support climate change issues by strengthening civil society to promote human rights and fundamental freedoms, focusing on the rights to water and a healthy environment within the Georgia Climate Action Project implemented by CENN in cooperation with the Kakheti Regional Development Foundation (KRDF), Association of the Chiaturians Union (ACU), Racha-Lechkhumi and Low Svaneti Agrotourism Development Association (RLS-ADA) and Young Pedagogues’ Union (YOU). The project’s target municipalities are: Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti; Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Akhmeta; Zestaponi, Tkibuli, Chiatura; and Ambrolauri, Oni.
