On July 1st, a Recycled Art project took place initiated by the students of the public affairs and event management certificate course at the training and consultation center at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), supported by CENN’s WMTR II program and the Environmental Information and Education Center. The project’s objective was to raise awareness among the youth about environmental issues, such as the environmental impact of waste and finding creative ways to manage waste.
Children between the ages of 7-11 attended the workshop.
The workshop had theoretical and practical components.
The theoretical part included an interactive presentation about the environmental impact of littering and its effect on animals. The presentation was followed by interactive games about the decomposition of waste in the environment, waste separation and the positive effects of recycling. The practical part enabled the youthful attendees to create toys from solid waste items with the help of eco-artist, Inga Bashirov.
At the end of the workshop, all the participants were awarded with certificates, children’s books and upcycled toys made from the solid waste.
Ana Petriashvili, a student of GIPA’s training center’s public affairs and event management certificate course, envisioned the project idea.
Luka Ivanidze, a graduate from GIPA’s training center’s advertising and graphic design certificate program, came up with the visual concept for the project.
The project was made possible by GIPA and CENN’s WMTR II program, and supported by USAID, the Environmental Information and Education Center, Lisi Development, Assort, Wendy’s, Green Gift, Palitra L (a publishing house), Nabeghlavi, Tolia, and Georgian Events.
