On February 15, a waste management training was conducted for the staff of the French School of the Caucasus. Contemporary waste management technologies, practices and challenges were the subjects of the training. The importance of proper waste management techniques and further opportunities to recycle sorted waste was emphasized in the training.
A waste separation corner has already been established at the French School of the Caucasus. At this location, schoolchildren, parents, and school staff are now able to bring their separated waste (i.e., paper, glass, plastic, and aluminium) and dispose of it in the appropriate waste-bins to be recycled.
Waste recycling corner will officially open at the school on February 23, 14:00.
It is noteworthy that the according to national legislation, obligation to separate waste becomes effective step-by-step from 2019. Correspondingly, public awareness raising and preparation is essential in the process.
The training was conducted by the WMTR II program implemented by CENN with the support of USAID. The WMTR II program has already installed waste separation stands at 8 locations in Tbilisi. Residents can now recycle paper, glass, aluminium, and plastic waste at these locations.
