From climate-smart agriculture to climate-smart landscapes
The links between agriculture and climate change have been well documented  and agriculture must play a major role in global efforts to address both adaptation and mitigation. But including climate change objectives requires new approaches to agricultural development that more explicitly address ecosystem health and resilience and action and impacts that can be realized at scale. This introduction briefly summarizes those agriculture-climate change links and the implications for ‘climate-smart’ agriculture and then taps the experience of integrated landscape initiatives to propose a ‘climate-smart landscape’ approach that will be elaborated in the rest of the article.
